This year, Jeroen celebrated his 25th anniversary as an all-round wire and sink EDM specialist at Lucassen, a remarkable milestone, especially considering his 27 years in the trade. After completing his precision engineering training, he worked briefly at two other companies, mastering wire and sink EDM in his second position. “I already knew about Lucassen from my previous company, and at the time, three of my former classmates worked here, two of whom are still my colleagues today. I reached out to the owner, and together we explored the possibilities. Given my EDM background, the transition was swift, and I soon joined Lucassen.”
Jeroen’s talent for technology was evident even in childhood, as recognized by his father. He was drawn to model building from an early age, making a technical education a natural path. Still, Jeroen initially wavered between training as a pastry chef and pursuing a technical career. Early on, it was clear he wanted to create finely crafted products with his hands. Ultimately, his interest in technology prevailed over the late hours of pastry-making, a choice that has benefited us at Lucassen for the past 25 years.
When asked what he enjoys most about working at Lucassen, Jeroen responds immediately: “The work here is highly varied. Our clients are diverse, which means there are always new challenges. I don’t have to produce large batches but instead work on unique products each time, which keeps my job interesting.” This variety also allows Jeroen to train newcomers in wire and sink EDM. Thanks to his experience, he often anticipates potential issues before production begins and can proactively address them. He regularly collaborates with his two former classmates, now working as a miller and a turner at Lucassen: “If we run into any issues during production, we easily find each other to discuss solutions. This spirit of cooperation really defines the work environment at Lucassen, everyone is willing to help one another.”
Over the past 25 years, Jeroen has witnessed Lucassen’s growth. “It’s wonderful to see how much the company has expanded; it’s truly something special. This building has been here for about 27 years, but the way the company has evolved is extraordinary. There’s a world of difference between the products we used to make and what we create now. I appreciate how Lucassen has kept pace with change, and I’m proud to be part of it.” A few months ago, Lucassen joined the Andra Tech Group. While Jeroen notices little change in his daily work, he sees opportunities in collaborating with the other companies: “I would really enjoy learning more about the other companies within the group and exploring where we can support each other and what we can learn from one another.”
